Services/Fees

WHO KNOWS ART, established in 2004, provides career development services to visual artists and helps galleries and arts organizations function more effectively. To date we have served over 300 clients in 24 states!

Services include one-on-one consultations, critiques, portfolio/website makeovers, workshops, project management, advice for growing sales and increasing profits, curating, editing, and jurying exhibitions and festivals.

Individual Artists:
Services are designed to encourage, enlighten and empower. Your work will be critiqued, your position in the marketplace will be assessed, and we will discuss your short and long-range goals. Helpful resources, as well as research conducted based on your specific needs, and guidelines provided for taking your career to the next level are included with a full consultation. Most popular are the step-by-step instructions to aid an artist's search for gallery representation, and a list of geographically targeted venues.

Another frequent request is for the review and editing of a portfolio or website, to make the artist’s presentation more professional, thereby improving their chances of success with galleries, juried exhibitions, grant applications, etc.

Our clients include those with several years of experience as full-time professional artists, art teachers/professors, recent college graduates, individuals with no formal art training and those pursuing a second career.

When proximity permits, we prefer to meet the artist and see a sampling of current work firsthand. Appointments can be arranged in the River Arts District, near downtown Asheville, and at other locations. Many of our clients live in distant cities; and in such cases, the initial consultation can be conducted by phone, after seeing images of the artist’s work and their portfolio documents. Consultations include a 15-minute follow-up call, allowing the artist opportunity to ask additional questions.

Galleries:
The process begins with two hours of discussion, involving an evaluation of the gallery’s physical space and displays, policies/procedures, sales methodologies, marketing efforts, and artist-related forms.

Then, based on info gathered at our meeting, a packet of information and resources is tailored to your needs. A follow-up call (up to 30-mins) is included in the price; this gives you an opportunity to ask additional questions or to clarify info provided in the packet.

Arts Organizations:
Regardless of what your business needs may be, please do not hesitate to inquire. We are always happy to listen and, when appropriate, prepare an estimate for needed services. If unable to accept an assignment, we will happily refer you to one of our respected colleagues.
