BIO Wendy H. Outland (aka “WHO”) received her BFA from Ringling College of Art and Design and has worked in arts administration since 1981. She has served as curator, juror, panelist, editor, workshop presenter and coordinator for numerous projects and events.
Outland was employed by the Florida Department of State for ten years, first at Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota (1981-85), and later at the Division of Cultural Affairs (Florida Arts Council) in Tallahassee. During that period (1985-91), she was in charge of the state’s public art program and director of Capitol Complex Exhibitions which included five venues.
After moving to Asheville, NC in 1991, she became the first employee of Blue Spiral 1, where she worked for nearly twelve years. Under her management, Blue Spiral 1 grew to become one of the Southeast’s premier fine art and craft galleries.
She has served on the boards of the Asheville Area Arts Council, HandMade in America, and the American Craft Council / Southeast Region. In 2004, Outland founded her own business, WHO KNOWS ART, as an independent art consultant, serving visual artists, arts organizations, galleries and collectors. In 2008-2009, Outland served as faculty member with the Arts Business Institute, a national nonprofit organization that offered conferences throughout the U.S.

WHO KNOWS ART services are based on helping artists with career development, as well as assisting galleries and arts organizations with programming, project management and internal affairs. An extensive series of workshops is offered for artists, galleries and nonprofits.
